I can see from the logs that the previous install is obviously pending still. I have tried to run the MS system readiness tool, checked for all prerequisite updates. I've turned of the security software.
Finally, just prior to trying a repair install I ran the following commands that I found on another forum:. Run as administrator. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide. In my case the first one worked as shown and the second one resulted in a message saying that the kb was not installed.
But when i went to reboot the computer started configuring the service pack. When it came back on SP1 was still not installed but when I ran Windows Update again this time I was able to successfully install it. So for me at the end it was one of the two commands above probably the first that fixed the problem.
